Reducing Food Waste – friendly, practical, and easy
Simple suppers, no waste Hi friends, We all know the feeling of cleaning out the fridge and tossing food we meant to use. It’s frustrating—and costly. One small way to make a big change is planning meals around freezer-friendly, versatile staples. Our beef and pork cuts are perfect for that. Cook once, eat twice: a roast today, tacos or sandwiches tomorrow. Freeze extra ground beef in meal-sized packs so nothing goes to waste. Bones can become rich broth, and leftovers turn into hearty soups…
Wrapping up the Market Season with Gratitude
Thank you for showing up for us — and for our farm family As we wrap up our outdoor market season for the year, we can’t help but feel incredibly grateful. Serving the community of Brandon has been such a blessing. This year came with its fair share of challenges as we worked to find our footing again — balancing new delivery routes, managing freezer locations, and getting back into a rhythm after some slower months. Being part of the Brandon Farmers Market at the Town Centre Parkade was…
Your Supper Table Helps Our Farm Grow
Every local choice makes a big difference. Hi friends, It means so much to us that you welcome Hillview Livestock into your kitchens and freezers. Every order you place doesn’t just feed your family—it keeps our family farm moving forward. When you choose local, you’re helping more than you might realize. Your support reaches our local butchers, feed suppliers, and neighbors who lend a hand with chores. It lets our kids grow up learning how to care for animals and the land. And it keeps good…
See you at the Brandon Farmers Market on Saturday
Look for Our Sign at the Brandon Farmers Market! This past week we had the opportunity to become the meat vendor for the Brandon Farmers Market! Here’s their Facebook page if you’d like to check it out: https://www.facebook.com/BrandonFarmersMarket We signed up less than 24 hours before Saturday’s market—I was nervous and excited all at once. But even with the fuss and worry, it turned out to be amazing! Getting out in front of people and making real connections reminded me why we do what we…
Chaos, Kids and Steak Pie
There are days you win, and days you just keep the wheels turning Some days on the farm are smooth and productive… this was not one of those days. It was just me and the kids at home with an overflowing to-do list, and let’s be honest — we only got the bare minimum done. I wish I was the kind of farm mom who could power through with little helpers in tow every day, but I’m not. I can hardly keep myself focused on one task at a time, let alone two kids and chores pulling me in every direction….
Good bye July Hello August
Good bye JulyHello August July flew by so fast! At the start of the month, Bree and Kierstyn both had birthdays to celebrate. We got some good swimming time in at the pool and the lake. We enjoyed fresh strawberries and raspberries, too! About 130 bales of hay were hauled home. There were a couple of evening fires, and we made some smores for bedtime snacks on the BBQ. The kids spent some time splashing in the little kiddie pool at home. We had a few cattle adventures to handle and did some…

Tough Year for Mb Farmers
A Touch Year for Many Manitoba Farmers Parts of Manitoba are in rough shape this summer. North of Winnipeg, near Lake Manitoba, a state of emergency has been declared. Farmers in that area have only gotten about 25% of the hay crop they normally would. That’s a big deal, especially when livestock rely on hay to get through the winter. To learn more, here’s a link to the CBC article:Read it here We’re Feeling Very ThankfulWe’ve been lucky to get some much-needed rain in our area. We don’t grow…
You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup
Last week we talked about learning from what didn’t go as planned—this week we’re thinking about what it means to slow down and make space for what matters. Hey there, We hope your summer is off to a good start. Around here, life gets full pretty fast—between working on the farm and working off the farm, there’s always something that needs doing. It’s a life we’re grateful for, but it can take a lot out of us. That’s why this summer, we’re trying to be more mindful about slowing down. Not…
A Garden Update – Learning as We Grow
A Garden Update – Learning as We Grow Hi friends, If you’ve checked our website lately, you might have seen that we said cut flowers were coming soon. Well… it turns out they might not be coming quite as soon as we hoped. This year, our garden has been overrun with grass and weeds. Between working on the farm and off the farm, we just haven’t had the time to keep up with it. I planted 105 annual flowers, but we lost quite a few. Sometimes things don’t go the way we plan. But that’s okay. It’s…
