A Little Farm Update as We Head Into the New Year
This past week came with a tough moment on the farm — we lost some of our chickens to what we believe was a weasel, based on how the birds were found. Losses like that are never easy, and it’s a reminder that farming always comes with highs and lows, especially this time of year.
This weekend will also be our last markets until later in the New Year. We’ll be taking January off from markets to slow down just a little and enjoy the start of the year together as a family. While the calendar will change, we’ll still be the same farmers — and still very grateful to serve our wonderful customers.
December has truly humbled us. Orders have been coming in steadily, and it’s shown us that what we’re doing matters and is valued. As we advertise more online, we also see the expected keyboard warriors, and some days that can wear on you. It’s easy to start wondering if you’re really making a difference.
So thank you — for the orders, the kind words, and the encouragement heading into the New Year. It means more than we can properly explain.
Blake is more excited about the snow than anyone else in our house. He’s dreaming of snowmen, snowball fights, forts, and big hills to slide down. We’re all hoping for a few milder days mixed in, so we can enjoy being outside without risking frostbite.
The kids also saw Santa at their daycare Christmas concert. Blake happily hopped right up on Santa’s knee for a chat. Bree also sat on Santa’s knee — but decided pretty quickly that it wasn’t her favorite experience.
With the frigid temperatures this past week, we’ve been busy making sure all our animals are well-bedded with lots of straw to stay warm and comfortable.
