A small way to be part of the farm
Hi everyone,
This one is a bit different, but it’s something simple that helps support the chickens that lay your eggs.
Eggshells are an important part of a chicken’s diet. They’re full of calcium, which helps hens lay strong eggs and stay healthy. Without enough, shells can weaken and hens can run into health issues or trouble laying.
So instead of those shells going in the garbage, we’re putting them right back to use.
If you’d like to take part, you can keep your eggshells and send them back with your next order. Those shells go right back to the same chickens that laid your eggs.
It might seem like a small thing, but it’s one of those simple ways people can be part of how their food is raised — even if you don’t live right next door.
A couple important notes:
- We are only collecting shells from our own eggs
- Shells from other flocks can carry bacteria or illness our birds aren’t used to
- Feeding hens their own shells back is safe and commonly done
If you want to take part, it’s easy:
- Keep your eggshells in an old bread bag or container
- No need to rinse them
- Just add to it as you go
- Send it back with your next order
No pressure at all on this. If you already use your shells at home (garden, compost, etc.), keep doing that. This is just for anyone who wants a small, simple way to be part of how their food is raised.
How we do it here:
We keep a bread bag in a container on the counter. When we crack eggs, the shells go straight in.
Once the bag fills up:
- We crush them down (just with a spoon)
- Keep filling and crushing until it’s full
- Then crush them smaller before feeding
Crushing them well matters — it keeps them from looking like whole eggs, which helps prevent chickens from pecking their own eggs.
From there, the crushed shells go into a dish in the coop, and the chickens eat what they need.
It’s simple, but it goes a long way in keeping our hens healthy and our eggs strong.
If you want to take part, we’ll gladly take them back with your next order.
Beef restock releases
We are no longer taking orders through private messages. All orders must be placed through our website. Stock and orders had become too much to keep track of ourselves.
Whatever is on the site at the time of ordering is what is available to order at that time. We are doing restock releases weekly at 8 PM every Sunday.
Our meat demand has greatly surpassed our expectations in such a short amount of time. We are extremely lucky to have such wonderful support but it also leaves us with limited stock to go around. As we work hard to finish the next animals for butcher, we truly appreciate your patience!
