We Bought Our First Quarter

This past week was a big one for our family. It was one of those weeks that reminded us just how much has changed over the last year.

On August 1, we took another big step in taking over the farm from Kierstyn’s grandparents. We officially took possession of our very first quarter section of land in our own names.

It’s something we’ve been working toward for a long time, and it’s a milestone we’re incredibly proud of. This farm has been in the family for generations, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to continue building it for our own family.

You may have also noticed something looks a little different.

This week we refreshed the colours used across Hillview Livestock. When we first launched our website, we chose colours that we thought suited us. At the time, we were still learning, building the business, and figuring out what we wanted it to become.

Now, after more than a year, we’ve settled into our roles and have a much clearer vision. The new colours feel more like us and better reflect the family farm we’re building. It’s a small change, but one that we’re really excited about.

Of course, farming has a way of reminding us that not everything runs on our schedule.

This weekend was supposed to be chicken processing weekend, but our meat birds simply aren’t quite ready yet. They’ll be getting a little more time to grow before they’re processed.

The summer heat likely slowed them down, but it was also a good learning experience. This is our first year raising meat chickens for our customers, and one lesson we’ve learned is to leave ourselves a little more time in next year’s schedule. Every season teaches us something, and we’re excited to keep improving.

We’ll let everyone know as soon as the chickens are ready.

Thank you for following along with our journey. Whether we’re celebrating milestones, making changes, or learning new lessons, we’re grateful to have you with us as we continue building our family farm.

Make Shift Perogie Poutine

Last night was one of those nights where I had no plan for supper. I stood in front of the freezer hoping something would jump out at me, and somehow this came together.

I cooked up some ground beef and a batch of our homemade perogies. Since I didn’t have any gravy, I mixed together a can of cream of potato soup and a can of cheddar soup with a splash of water, then seasoned it with a little salt and pepper.

Layered it all together, sprinkled on some shredded cheese, and just like that… Perogy Poutine was born.

It wasn’t fancy, but it was filling, easy, and everyone cleaned their plates. Sometimes the best meals are the ones you make up as you go.

Thanks for following us and supporting our farm. If you have questions, give us a shout! Have a wonderful week!

With our appreciation,

Tony, Kierstyn, and Family
