A quiet little spot in the bush

We’re sharing a picture today of a bush spot that we mowed out because we’re working on something a little different.

We’re attempting to make a simple little campsite here on the farm for couples, families, or honestly anyone looking for a quiet getaway. It’s nothing fancy, and maybe that’s exactly what people are looking for these days in such a busy world.

We know it might not work out. Maybe we’ll put all this work into it and no one will book it. But at least we can say we tried.

That’s kind of how we look at a lot of things around here.

Last year we tried doing cut flowers. In theory, it would have been a great addition to the farm. The reality was that we just weren’t in a stage of life where we could make it work properly. Some people might see that as a failure, but honestly we learned a lot. If we ever decide to try again later on, we’ll already be that much further ahead because of what we learned the first time.

This little campsite idea feels similar.

Right now it’s still just a spot in the bush, but we have plans for it.

The setup would include:

  • A picnic table area
  • Campfire pit
  • Some firewood supplied (with extra available to purchase if needed)
  • Our camper set up on site
  • BBQ and dishes available
  • Space for extra tents if needed

The camper itself isn’t brand new or top of the line by any means, but in a world where everything feels flashy and overdone, we think simple can still make for a really nice getaway.

The camper sleeps 2 in the main bed and 2 on the fold-out couch. There’s room inside for a cot as well, and lots of outdoor space for extra tents.

We’re also looking into boosting our Wi-Fi signal out to the campsite for guests to use.

There would also be access to our hot tub and backyard area at the house. For kids, we have a sandbox, swings, trampoline, climber, and we’re hoping to put up a treehouse this year too.

Basically, we just want to offer a quiet little piece of farm life to people who need a break.

Our hope is to keep it affordable — likely under $100 a night. We want it to cost less than renting a camper and hauling it to a campground yourself, while still making it worth the time and effort we’re putting into setting it up.

We’ve always liked the idea of having some type of Airbnb here, but buying a cabin just isn’t realistic for us right now. Then we realized something — with farmers markets every Saturday in the summer, we barely get to use our camper anymore anyway. It mostly just sits.

So instead of letting it sit, maybe we can turn it into something others would enjoy.

For insurance purposes we’ll likely list it through an online booking platform, and we’ll be looking into the best options this week. But we wanted to offer it to our customers first.

If you think this is something you’d be interested in, reach out to us and we’ll start a list of people to send the booking link to once everything is ready.

If you’re looking for a quiet night or two away, want to see where your food comes from, or just want a camping trip without all the hassle, we’d love to share our little corner of the farm with you.

We’d also love to hear your ideas on things we should offer at the campsite. We’re even considering offering just a tenting spot as well if there’s interest in that.

And before we go, we also want to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. To all the moms in every capacity — we see you, and we appreciate all the hard work, care, and love you pour into the people around you.

We will be doing our meat drop tomorrow instead of tonight. Today we’re taking the time to soak up the sunshine, spend time together outside, and enjoy a slower afternoon as a family.

Thanks for following us and supporting our farm. If you have questions, give us a shout! Have a wonderful week!

With our appreciation,

Tony, Kierstyn, and Family
