Finding Our Focus Again

This summer ended up looking a little different than I expected.

We added another market, and with it came a lot more baking. Bread, buns, pies and crisps ended up being a much bigger part of our summer than I had planned.

And people loved it.

We had so many great conversations at the markets and met a lot of new people. It also helped me figure out our market setup, what people stop for, what sells and what is actually realistic for me to make in a week.

But it also taught me something else.

At the end of the day, we are a farm.

The meat side of Hillview Livestock is what we have spent years building, and I realized this summer that I don’t want that getting lost behind a table full of baking.

Baking will still be around. I enjoy making it, people clearly enjoy eating it, and I think it fits nicely alongside what we already do.

I just don’t need to make everything, every week.

As we head into fall, I’m looking forward to putting more of my time back into the farm, our meat, and the things we originally set out to grow.

We do still have another farmers market coming up on September 12, and I’m actually looking forward to trying something a little different.

I’ll bring some bread, buns and pies if I’ve made them during the week, but I’m not going to spend days trying to fill a table with baking.

Instead, we’re bringing the focus back to the meat.

Beef, pork and the food that comes from our farm will be front and centre.

This summer wasn’t wasted time. It gave me a much better idea of what works for us, what doesn’t, and where I want to put my energy as Hillview Livestock continues to grow.

Sometimes figuring out what you don’t want to do is just as useful as figuring out what you do.

Thanks for following us and supporting our farm. If you have questions, give us a shout! Have a wonderful week!

With our appreciation,

Tony, Kierstyn, and Family
